Inspired by the century-old Burgundian tradition of La Paulée, where vignerons celebrate the end of the harvest by sharing their finest bottles, La Paulée de Zurich brings this spirit of generosity and conviviality to Switzerland. Wine lovers gather around the table, bringing treasured bottles from their private cellars to share with fellow enthusiasts. What makes our celebration unique is that we are joined by Vignerons not olny from Burgundy, but also leading Pinot Noir vignerons from Switzerland, who join us with their own wines for a unique afternoon of exceptional bottles, friendship and shared passion.
Since 1923, the winegrowers of Burgundy have gathered on the third Monday of November at the Château de Meursault for La Paulée, a celebratory luncheon at which each producer brings a selection of wines from their own cellar. Originally conceived as an occasion to present the latest vintage to invited merchants and guests, it also offered winemakers the opportunity to discover and appreciate the wines of their peers.
From these modest beginnings, La Paulée has evolved into one of Burgundy’s most cherished traditions and an exclusive gathering of some 600 guests and a multi-year waitlist for prospective participants.
Over time, the spirit of La Paulée has travelled well beyond the vineyards of Burgundy. Celebrations in New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Singapore, among others, have become distinguished events in their own right. Yet wherever it is held, the essence of La Paulée remains unchanged: the pleasure of sharing exceptional wines in a spirit of friendship, generosity and conviviality.
After two decades abroad, during which he attended La Paulée celebrations in several of the world’s capitals, Christian Raubach, a member of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, returned to Zurich with a simple question: why did a city with such a vibrant wine culture, a flourishing community of Pinot Noir producers and Burgundy virtually on its doorstep not have a Paulée of its own?
In 2023, Christian took the initiative to establish La Paulée de Zurich, bringing this famous Burgundian tradition to Switzerland. True to its Burgundian roots, La Paulée de Zurich is guided not by commercial ambitions but by the simple pleasure of bringing people together around a great glass of Burgundy wine.

BYO – Bring Your Own Burgundy!
Each guest is invited to bring one or two fine bottles of Burgundy (or indeed a few more…) to enjoy and, above all, to share with fellow guests around the table. White or red Burgundy are equally welcome — ideally a little of both. After all, this lunch is a leisurely affair lasting several hours, and in good company, a bottle rarely lasts long.
We are also delighted to welcome several of Switzerland’s leading Pinot Noir vignerons, who will naturally be sharing their own treasures. So, Burgundy remains firmly at the heart of the occasion, although we are happy to make an exception for outstanding Swiss Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Everything else stays at home!
Dress Code
Smart casual. Gentlemen shirt with a collar, jacket encouraged.
Members of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin are welcome to wear their Tastevin medallions.
Getting There
We recommend arriving by public transport.
From Zurich Main Station (Zürich HB): Take tram 8 or 51 to Schiffbau right in front of the restaurant, or S-Bahn to Hardbrücke, followed by a five-minute walk.
Of course! Consider this a wonderful opportunity to discover Burgundy and its wines. We would be delighted to welcome you. Simply mention this when registering, and we will arrange a bottle for you.
Fear not. If anything, you should be worried about the opposite! Have a look at our reports from previous years, which feature a selection of the remarkable bottles brought by our guests. My personal advice: When it comes to wine, it is better to arrive overdressed than underdressed. It makes it much easier to approach a fellow guest and ask for a taste of that extraordinary bottle you have always dreamed of trying. Sharing is caring. Those who prefer to keep their treasures to themselves better stay home and drink alone!
Absolutely not. You remain entirely in control of your own bottles and decide whom you wish to share them with. Typically, this will be your immediate neighbours at the table.
There are few greater misfortunes at a La Paulée than finding yourself with an empty glass and no wine left to pour! We therefore recommend bringing an extra bottle (or two), just to be on the safe side.
In any case, we will have our own reserve available at Les Cavistes, so you can always replenish your supplies should the need arise.
Certainly not! La Paulée is not Oktoberfest. Burgundy lovers are discerning wine enthusiasts who appreciate fine wines as much as good company. The atmosphere is lively and convivial, but always civilised. Of course, you are also welcome to organise a group of friends in advance. Just let us know, and we will make sure you can sit together.
We strictly ask everyone to arrive on time. Once lunch has concluded, you are free to leave whenever you wish. That said, many guests prefer to linger over the cheese buffet, enjoy the conversation and open another bottle or two. The event officially concludes at 18:00 hours.
Not at all. La Paulée de Zurich stays true to the tradition of its Burgundian original, is organised on a pro bono basis. The same is true for the partners who support us.
